Jack Fleming Memorial To Be Unveiled At Alumni Center

Jack Fleming – better known as “The Voice of the Mountaineers” for nearly 40 years – will have his one-of-a-kind career immortalized with the unveiling of “Fleming Corner” inside the Erickson Alumni Center on Friday, April 29.

“Jack was such a huge part of Mountaineer sports for decades. Many of us grew up listening to his vivid play-by-play. I can think of no better way to honor him than with this special display in our center closest to the football stadium – very fitting for a man who loved WVU sports,” said WVU Alumni Association president and CEO, Stephen Douglas in a press release sent out by the Alumni Association.

The new room will feature memorabilia, wall decorations depicting some of Fleming’s signature play-by-play moments and a statue created by WVU alumnus Jamie Lester. The room and statue were gifts from Fleming’s late brother, John, his wife Anita and his son Jonathan. Funding for the display was provided by West Virginia Radio Corporation.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, April 29, at 3 p.m. in Salon C of the Erickson Alumni Center. Fans are welcome to attend the unveiling and will be able to stay and view the display until 5 p.m. Fans are also encouraged to share memories and stories of Jack Fleming at http://alumni.blogs.wvu.edu/.
