On Thursday afternoon, the Big 12 Conference announced former Stanford Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby as it new Commissioner. Bowlsby served as Stanford’s AD for the past six years. He was also the Athletic Director at Iowa for 15 years prior.
WVU Athletic Director Oliver Luck is very familiar with Bowlsby and his accomplishments. Luck’s son Andrew played quarterback for the Cardinal football team during Bowlsby’s time at Stanford.
Luck released a statement Thursday night saying how excited he is to have Bowlsby as the new Big 12 Commissioner.
"I first met Bob five years ago when Andrew was being recruited by Stanford. He is an excellent choice for Big 12 Commissioner and will further enhance the cohesiveness of the conference," said Luck in a statement released by the University. "I have had two of my children compete as varsity athletes at Stanford, and I know how well-rounded the department was under his leadership.
"Stanford athletics has enjoyed great success with Bob at the helm, and I believe this will translate over to the Big 12," continued Luck. "As evident in Stanford’s many Director’s Cup wins in recent years for on-field performance, I believe all sports in the Big 12 will flourish under Bob Bowlsby."
Bowlsby will be introduced as the Big 12 Commissioner at a press conference on Friday in Dallas, Texas. Check back to MetroNews for coverage of that story.
