WVU incoming freshman basketball recruit Elijah Macon from Huntington Prep has failed to qualify at WVU and will be attending Brewster Academy for the 2012-2013 academic year, according to Scout.com.
“He is going to be a member of the 2013 class and he is going to Brewster,” Macon’s AAU coach Vic Dandridge told the recruiting website. “That is what he told me and that is what his mom told me.”
According to the report, Macon is still hopeful to eventually enroll at WVU in the future.
“Elijah is going to prep school, he is not de-committing,” Dandridge told Scout.com. “He still plans to go to West Virginia.”
The news doesn’t come as too big of a surprise as questions have swirled recently regarding his academics. Mountaineer freshmen Terry Henderson and Eron Harris, meanwhile, are both already in Morgantown taking summer classes.
WVU assistant coach Larry Harrison told MetroNews last month that Macon still had some work to do before he would be able to come on at WVU, although there was still some hope then that he would qualify for this year.
Just last week, WVU announced the addition of Boston College transfer Matt Humphrey who will essentially take Macon’s spot on the roster.
