Pilot Identified In Monongalia County Plane Crash

The man killed in last week’s plane crash in Monongalia County is now being identified.

Officials say Richard Lambert, 63, of Columbus, Ohio was at the controls when the plane went down near Chestnut Ridge.  The State Medical Examiner has not determined the exact cause of death, but ruled the trauma Lambert suffered was not survivable.

The NTSB has wrapped up its investigation at the scene of the crash and crews have been working, this week, to move the wreckage to a secure facility so officials can further analyze the plane.

The plane was registered to O.Z. Gas Aviation based out of Lewistown, Montana. The name of the pilot has not been released.

Investigators say the plane’s controls were functioning properly and did not play a role in the crash last Friday.  Officials are trying to determine if weather could have played a factor in the crash.  Cloud cover was the area of 2,000 to 2,500 feet Friday morning.

The twin turboprop plane departed a privately-owned airport in Tidioute, Pennsylvania and was due to arrive in Nemacolin, Pennsylvania just 15 minutes later.
