Former Deputy Free On Home Confinement

A former Pocahontas County sheriff’s deputy is free on home confinement following a ruling by a circuit judge Tuesday.

Bradley Totten, 40, of Hillsboro was released from jail and placed on home confinement by Greenbrier County Circuit Judge Jim Rowe. Rowe sent Totten to jail last Friday after he was arraigned on 21 additional criminal counts that he allegedly sexually assaulted and abused teenage girls and women whom he had taken into custody.

Totten was first indicted in April on a dozen criminal counts.

Speical Prosecutor Brian Parsons, an assistant prosecutor in Fayette Couty, did not oppose home confinement. The process will be administered by Fayette County Home Confinement Office.

Three women say Totten abused and assaulted them while they were in police custody. The crimes allegedly took place in 1992-1994, 2005 and 2009.

Totten is scheduled to be in court again next month.
