Man Dies During State Police Visit

State Police say a Doddridge County man died after trying to interfere with a search for a wanted fugitive.

The body of Elton Wine, 71, from West Union was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for a cause of death determination.

Troopers say members of the State Police Special Response Team went to Wine’s home with a search warrant Thursday looking for John Bowman from Doddridge County who is wanted on marijuana delivery charges.

State Police say both Wine and Bowman have "extensive and violent" criminal histories.

At first, troopers say Wine was uncooperative.  He later relented, though, but then started complaining of difficulty breathing.  Reports indicate EMS was called to help, but Wine became unresponsive and died.
