Numbers In From Take Back Day

Almost two tons of prescription drugs will now be disposed of properly.

Federal officials say 3,742 pounds of unwanted and expired prescription drugs were collected at 120 sites throughout West Virginia during Saturday’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Booth Goodwin, the U.S. Attorney for West Virginia’s Southern District, calls those collection numbers a "huge" victory for the Mountain State.

"That’s two tons of medicine that can’t hurt anyone’s children or grandchildren and it’s two tons of medicine that we know won’t contribute to our state’s prescription drug problem," Goodwin said.

Those with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency were also part of the effort, the fifth time such an event has been held nationally.
