Juco Offensive Tackle Commits to WVU

Junior-college offensive tackle Tyler Edwards committed to West Virginia on Monday night, becoming the 15th pledge to the 2013 recruiting class and bolstering a position of need for the Mountaineers, Rivals.com reported.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Edwards out of Blinn (Texas) Community College visited Morgantown for last weekend’s 70-63 win over Baylor. Rated a two-star prospect by Rivals, he reportedly has scholarship offers from Kansas State and Louisiana Tech and is drawing interest from Arkansas, Arizona State, North Texas and UTEP.

The Mountaineers must replace three senior starters on the offensive line after this season, and Edwards becomes the third offensive line commitment, joining three-star high school prospects Marcell Lazard of Bloomfield, N.J., and Tyler Tezeno of Houston.

"Edwards is a quality pickup for West Virginia because the Mountaineers will be losing three seniors along the offensive front with Joe Madsen, Josh Jenkins and Jeff Braun all set to graduate," said Keenan Cummings of WVSports.com. "At 6-foot-6, Edwards has the flexibility to play any of the positions along the offensive line and has played both center and tackle at Blinn C.C."

Edwards plans to enroll in January, Cummings said, in order "to give himself an opportunity to get a spring practice under his belt and acclimate to the college game."
