Train Derailment In Kanawha County

Kanawha County emergency officials say 12 coal cars went off the railroad tracks on Cabin Creek Tuesday morning. The cars did not overturn.

Kanawha County Assistant Emergency Services Director C.W. Sigman says the CSX tracks broke apart near the community of Dawes. Sigman says it’s the second time in the last three years there’s been a derailment in that general area.

Sigman says it’s a long coal train and it’s blocking four crossings at Dawes Hollow, Miami Hill, Sharon Hill and Joliet Road. He says CSX crews will have to separate the train and use large pieces of equipment to push back the derailed cars to get to the track for repairs.

Sigman says the Cabin Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. chief has reported no environmental problems in connection with the derailment. There were also no injuries.
