An Alabama truck driver dies after a fatal shooting early Saturday morning involving a Huntington police officer.

Police said the officer, while on patrol, stopped to investigate what appeared to be an accident between a semi tractor trailer and another vehicle on Riverside Drive near the Wickline Bridge.

Upon getting out of his cruiser, the officer was approached by Joshua Emerson, 32, of Hamilton, AL, who was allegedly carrying a knife and a security guard who was working nearby at Special Metals.

The officer said Emerson attempted to attack the security guard with the knife, and that’s when he fired several shots at Emerson. He then hit the suspect, killing him.

The officer’s name has not been released at this time.

The Huntington Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

I am a family member of this guy. While I don't condone what Josh was doing, I don't think it is necessary "to get rid of" people in this manner. Josh has two little girls that are devastated in the loss of their daddy. Especially right here at Christmas. Please have some compassion for the family.

If the suspect was far enough away that it took several shoots to hit and kill much danger was he really in? I'm of the opinion that it was either unnecessary or the officer my need a different profession

Jim I guess the only thing I can say to you is "life is hard, its even harder when you are stupid". You are a special case of stupid.

    • Jeff time, it could be a member of your family. If so, I would hope the cop would not succumb to you way of thinking and would do as done here and protect your family even though you dont want him to.

Praise to the police officer. If I was being attacked by a knife-wielding felon, I hope that the responding police officer protected me in the same manner.

This murder the officers life was endangered in any way. That's if the facts are as stated above. That's like going to a bar fight & shooting the aggressor in the fight. But on the other hand it needs to happen more to get rid of the criminals. Then i think they would get the message if they catch us cops will shoot us.
