Truck driver killed in shooting involving Huntington officer

An Alabama truck driver dies after a fatal shooting early Saturday morning involving a Huntington police officer.

Police said the officer, while on patrol, stopped to investigate what appeared to be an accident between a semi tractor trailer and another vehicle on Riverside Drive near the Wickline Bridge.

Upon getting out of his cruiser, the officer was approached by Joshua Emerson, 32, of Hamilton, AL, who was allegedly carrying a knife and a security guard who was working nearby at Special Metals.

The officer said Emerson attempted to attack the security guard with the knife, and that’s when he fired several shots at Emerson. He then hit the suspect, killing him.

The officer’s name has not been released at this time.

The Huntington Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
