Amayo leaves Thundering Herd

His career at Marshall was short lived.  Freshman guard Kelvin Amayo abruptly left the basketball team Monday.

Amayo just joined the Thundering Herd in December.  The Newark, N.J. native was a non-qualifier and had been on campus since January 2012 but wasn’t allowed to practice with the team until Dec. 20.  He made his debut with The Herd two days later when Marshall travelled to Rupp Arena and tangle with Kentucky.

“We were surprised and caught off guard by Kelvin’s timing in deciding to transfer after a little over a week of practice and three games since becoming eligible,” said head coach Tom Herrion. “We wish him the best in the future.”

Amayo had played in three games averaging 2.7 points per game and 9.3 minutes of action in those trio of contests.
