Frontier training center fire under investigation

The state Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the cause of a weekend blaze which caused heavy damage to a training facility for Frontier Communications.

The facility is located in the Rock Branch Industrial Park near Poca in Putnam County and sits alongside another Frontier service facility.

“One of our employees walked outside and noticed smoke next door coming from the training facility which is under a steel canopy,” said company spokesman Dan Page. “The facility was heavily engulfed in flames and smoke.”

Firemen were quickly on the scene Saturday afternoon and battled the blaze.  Page says a bucket truck was destroyed and nine other vehicles were damaged by the intense heat and fire.   The training facility was also destroyed along with some tools, electronic equipment, and a small amount of warehoused materials used in the field.

“It’s an area people work in and trucks are parked there on a daily basis,” he said. “It’s an active area.”

A cause of the fire is not known.  Page says they’ve been unable to attach a monetary amount to the damage at this point.
