Police searching for murder suspect in Logan

Police are not releasing the cause of death in a Logan County murder.

The family of 88-year-old Grover Morrison became concerned when they hadn’t heard from him.

“Some of his family went to his residence at 605 Stratton Street [on Tuesday] and they found him dead in his residence,” according to Logan Police Chief E.K. Harper.

Police do have a suspect in the crime. They’re looking for 37-year-old John Edward Dempsey who’s lived in several areas around the county.

The victim’s car, a 2012 Buick Lucerne, was missing from Morrison’s home. Police believe Dempsey used it to flee the crime scene. The vehicle was located Tuesday evening in Man.

“We recovered the car. We’re not aware of any other mode of transportation [Dempsey] has. But somebody could have picked him up or given him a ride,” says Harper.

Police are asking for your help in locating the suspect.

“We consider him armed and dangerous. If anybody has any information on him, they can either contact the Logan Police Dept. or the West Virginia State Police.”

At this point, Harper says they’re not sure what, if any, connection the two men had. That is still under investigation along with a motive.
