Galloway returning as WRs coach

Wake Forest assistant Lonnie Galloway, who coached three seasons at WVU under Bill Stewart, will return to the Mountaineers as receivers coach on Dana Holgorsen’s staff, said a source close to the program.

Receivers coach Lonnie Galloway is returning to WVU, where he coached from 2008-10.

Galloway’s hiring, which has yet to be announced by the school, comes less than 36 hours after quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital left for Texas A&M. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, who coached receivers the past two seasons at WVU, will take on the quarterback coaching duties.

Galloway has mentored several standout receivers, including West Virginia’s Jock Sanders, who finished second in the Big East in receptions in 2009 and 2010. During Galloway’s first season at Wake Forest, where he served as passing game coordinator, the Demon Deacons threw for a school-record 3,291 yards and All-ACC receiver Chris Givens led the league with 102.3 receiving yards per game. Givens became a fourth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams.

Galloway, who took the lead on Tavon Austin’s recruitment in 2009, presumably will once again focus on the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area, which was handled last season by recently fired cornerbacks coach Daron Roberts. Galloway also recruited Georgia, North Carolina and Florida during his previous stint with the Mountaineers.
