Threatened deputy shoots and kills man in Mercer County

State Police Troopers are investigating a Saturday night shooting in Mercer County that involved a Mercer County sheriff’s deputy.

The deputy shot and killed a man who had repeatedly refused to drop a weapon

Police were dispatched to Sandlick Road at around 10 p.m. for a domestic call. Investigators say the domestic violence incident involved a chainsaw.

Mercer County Sheriff Don Meadows says the deputy felt threatened and killed the man.

State Troopers are investigating the fatal shooting. The names of those involved have not been released.

The death is the fourth deadly shooting involving police officers in the past week.

Kanawha County deputies shot and killed a man who fired at them Saturday evening in Pinch.

Last Monday police shot and killed a Georgia man just off the Interstate 64 exit in Lewisburg. He had been involved in a domestic dispute with his Greenbrier County girlfriend earlier in the day. Police say he got out of his car after a traffic stop and pointed a gun at them.

State Troopers shot and killed John Dempsey of Logan County Thursday night after he had allegedly murdered two men earlier in the week. Dempsey was killed following a police pursuit.
