U.S. Senator Joe Manchin stopped in Charleston Tuesday as part of his “Standing Up For The Next Generation Tour” in West Virginia.

As part of the tour, Senator Manchin is visiting several communities in the state and holding meetings with business, labor and community leaders regarding the country’s financial house.

During the meeting in Charleston, Manchin talked with leaders from AARP, the Kanawha County Commission and many others regarding a range of topics including Medicaid, Healthcare and debt.

Manchin said he learned that people are willing to compromise in areas when their is dialogue.

“The thing that we found out when you start talking to different groups who represent those people, whether it be Medicare, Social Security, the Medicaid and all the working poor that they are all willing to sit down and make adjustments, rational adjustments,” said Manchin.

Community leaders told Manchin that sometimes they feel there voices are not being heard because they are at a different level.

Manchin said this shouldn’t be the case and he has to do something about it.

“That’s the shame of it and now I’m going to go back and raise as much cain as I can saying hey have you been back home because people are willing to compromise and meet,” said Manchin.

During the meeting, Manchin pointed out that discussions with those across party lines regarding the issues does not happen in Washington D.C.

Manchin said this is a big reason why nothing is getting done in Washington and that there is constant gridlock . He said this gridlock is the reason for the current No Labels problem solving group he and other politicians are involved in.

“It’s not another political party and it’s not pushing any policy at all,” said Manchin. “It’s truly trying to fix Congress and make it work. It’s fixing it by giving a venue for people to come and sit down with differences.”

And that is what the Senator is trying to accomplish as he travels the state during his tour.

Manchin said he hopes his fellow colleagues are doing the same thing he is doing on this tour because it’s the way problems are going to be solved and solutions are found.

Manchin was expected to be in Clarksburg Tuesday for the next stop of his tour.

    He is a two faced liar

      So is Every other Person in Congress.Thats how they got there.

    Joe Manchin is not a liberal. He was the only Democrat in the Senate to vote against "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal. He was also one of two Democrats to vote in favor of stopping the military from developing alternative fuel sources. At best, he is a moderate.

    • Chalkdust

      I think you're right, that's why I voted for him. What happened after the election? One phone call from the resident socialist and the man went all gooey.

  • Chalkdust

    Joe Manchin:
    You great big pile of donkey goo. Explain to the rest of us just where it is you plan to compromise? Tell us what you learned from your trip to the motherland;
    You're wrong about the second amendment and in fact it's a lock-box protected by the people. Keep the hell out.

    Hey Mr. President these people down here are mad as hell and they're not going to take it any longer. The EPA is and always has been a rouge government department used by you and other socialist to do your dirty work.

    Hey Mr.President one more important thang for you. If we were led by responsible leadership from the state government, we (not me of course) would have resisted you much more strongly in 2007/2008.

    Note to Harry Reid:
    Not much give here in Charleston for socialist ideas except a few fat democrats that can't seem to push away from the slop bucket. But anyway, thanks for the plane ride down here and particularly back.

    One final note for the report;
    They want to know what it is that democrats are compromising on? More taxes, less government, more oil drilling, keystone pipeline, shutting down more coal fired power plants, less spending, green work cards rather than full citizenship for all foreigners.

    Yours in full suplication,
    Part time US Senator,
    Joe Manchin

      Senator Manchin: Your report above is the only time in your political career that I agree with you. Keep up the your flawed perspectives and keep working for a poorer West Virginia. Noboby does it better than you. With my most sincere disgust.

    Tell him to talk to his fellow liberals who control the Senate. They haven't passed a budget in five years. They blame others, but the House of Representatives have sent one to them every year. His buddy Reid won't even bring them to the floor for a vote. That is FACT.

    And that is pitiful. Just like our representation in the Senate. Don't get me started on the carpetbagger who's his fellow Senator.

    This is a self-inflicted wound. But it can be healed.

    And yet he votes for the national liberal agenda every chance he gets. He needs to say no to attacks on the Second Amendment and he needs to say no to unfettered government spending.

    Cut the budget of the State Department. For the past four years, everytime Clinton opens her mouth she's promising our money to about every nation on the planet. There are plenty of cuts to be made. But, they have to be across the board.
