Large dock breaks loose on Kanawha River

A large dock on the banks of the Kanawha River broke loose from its moorings Thursday morning sending the dock and things hooked to it down the river from St. Albans toward Putnam County.

The dock, owned by Lou Wendell Marine Sales in St. Albans, had a dozen boat houses and several boats tied on. Crews were able to stop it a few miles down river. It ended up beyond the Interstate 64 bridge at Nitro.

There were no injuries. The incident is being blamed on high water.
