Watch: Football recruiting update with Rivals

Rivals.com’s Mid-Atlantic recruiting analyst Adam Friedman was a guest on the MetroNews Statewide Sportsline, looking at WVU’s recruiting class, as well as a few instate players that are getting set to play D-I football next season.

As for his take on WVU’s recruiting class so far?

“It’s pretty solid,” he said. “They’re the 21st rated class overall in the country and the third best in the Big 12, which is pretty big – especially for an offense that’s trying to replace some guys who left.”

Instate WVU commit Elijah Wellman from Spring Valley, meanwhile, a guy Friedman saw in person at the Chesapeake Bowl earlier this winter.

“I was impressed with his versatility,” Friedman said. “He’s not the biggest or fastest, but they were rotating him around from tight end to fullback and even played some linebacker in practice. I was impressed with that.”

And Friedman’s take on George Washington’s Ryan Switzer headed to North Carolina?

“He’s great and I got to see him at one of the camps in Pittsburgh,” Friedman said. “I was really blown away with his quickness and his ability to shake defensive backs who you would have thought were quicker, along with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and he just showed off his ability.”

One of Switzer’s GW teammates, Jordan Clay, is headed to Air Force.

“I’ve heard good things about him,” Friedman said. “He has good intangibles and he’s tall. He can move around pretty well and looks to have a pretty decent future at tight end over at Air Force Academy.”
