Preston County man faces 75 animal cruelty charges

Police in Preston County arrested a man on animal cruelty charges and seized more than 100 animals from the Eglon property.

Preston County Sheriff’s deputies say they took 61 chickens, 34 rabbits, seven dogs and five goats from the property of David Shahan, 42.  He now faces 75 counts of animal cruelty.

Police went to the property on Jan. 24.  Previously, several dead animals were found on the property, deputies say.  Those included eight dead rabbits, a dead dog and animals with no access to food or water.

Last month, animals were found without food or water.  Police said there were no tracks in the snow to indicate any care from anyone on the property.

Shahan faces up to a $2,000 fine and six months in prison on each count.

A hearing has been set for March 12.
