Coal miners injured in separate accidents

A Monongalia County coal miner is in critical condition and on life support after an accident earlier this week at the Loveridge Mine.

State officials said Glen Clutter Jr., 51, of Baxter, was hit in the head with a slate bar when a car derailed at the Miracle Run end of the underground mine near Fairview in Monongalia County.

CONSOL Energy owns the mine.

Officials said the incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.  Clutter was knocked unconscious and had to be flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Meanwhile, another miner was burned after suffering electrical shock at the Prime No. 1 underground mine just outside of Star City. That incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. He was taken by ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital, but was conscious and alert.

The identity of that miner has not been released.
