Coal miner killed in Raleigh County

A Fayette County coal miner is dead after an accident Tuesday at Pocahontas Coal’s Affinity Mine in Raleigh County, the second deadly accident there this month.

State mine safety officials say John Myles, 44, from Hilltop was killed. Investigators say a scoop hit him as he was shoveling coal ribs.

Myles had been a coal miner for four years, the last 14 months at Affinity.

On Feb. 7 Affinity miner Edward L. Finney, 43, of Bluefield, Va., was killed in a hoisting accident.
