Charleston police investigate deadly accident

An early morning bus route turned tragic Thursday.

Sgt. Nick Null with the Charleston Police Department says a KRT bus left the Stockton Street terminal around 5am and the driver started his routine rounds.

“He had picked up some passengers, the driver had, on Stockton Street and was headed to go west on 4th Ave.”

Null says the driver did not see a man heading across the street.

“There was a collision with a pedestrian who was crossing the street there on 4th Ave. As a result, the pedestrian passed away,” says Null.

The accident is still under investigation. Null says at this point, they’re not sure who was at fault but it was dark at the time the pedestrian was hit and killed.

The name of the victim has not been released.
