Two indicted for Windmill Park murders

A Marion County Grand Jury indicted two men on murder charges for the 1974 Windmill Park killings in Fairmont.

Earlier this week, Eddie Jack Washington, 59, was brought back to West Virginia after being arrested in Florida on three counts of first-degree murder.  Police say he shot and killed Fairmont residents Guy Lester Phillips, 20, his wife, Wanda Jane Phillips, 19, and Billy Ray Cobb, 27.  Police say the victims were shot execution style.

On Thursday, another man — Phillip Bush, 64 — was named in a criminal complaint for acting with Washington.  Bush was also indicted on murder charges Friday.

The criminal complaint says the two men acted together in the killings.

Police in several states assisted with the investigation.  New information surfaced in Sept. 2012, leading to a revival in the investigation and Washington’s arrest.

The criminal complaint says information about Bush and Washington’s actions is based on “witness statements as well as Washington’s post Miranda admissions.”

Prosecutor Pat Wilson declined comment when asked about Washington’s admissions to police.

Washington is behind bars at the North Central Regional Jail; Bush is being held at the Mount Olive Correctional Facility.
