Guilty plea in Roane County animal cruelty case

A Roane County woman accused of animal cruelty pleads guilty after police found dead and dying horses on her farm in January.

Tory Shadowwolf Morgan, 41, of Reedy, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of animal cruelty Thursday in Roane County Circuit Court.

Morgan will spend 75 days on supervised release and then be placed on one year of probation. She originally was sentenced to 120 days behind bars before prosecutors recommended the lesser sentence.

Morgan was charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty after authorities learned of 20 dead and 20 emaciated horses on her farm on January 17.

In addition to her plea, Morgan agreed to give up custody of the malnourished horses.

The court ordered her to pay $2,000 in restitution to the Roane County deputy who cared for the horses while she awaited trial. She was also ordered to pay $1,650 in court fees.
