Rockefeller conducting violent media hearing Monday

U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller will be holding a media hearing Monday to discuss the impact of violent video games and other forms of media violence on kids.

During the hearing, which starts at 1:45 p.m., Rockefeller will be examining the issue with a group of concerned parents, teachers, mental health experts as well as national advocacy groups and representatives from the video game industry.

Rockefeller is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and has introduced legislation called The Violent Content Research Act of 2013.

The bill directs the National Academy of Sciences to conduct a comprehensive study and investigation into the connection between violent video games and violent programming and harmful effects on children.

The hearing is scheduled for Monday at the RCB Health Sciences Center in Martinsburg.
