U.S. Senator Joe Manchin and wife Gayle unveiled the official gubernatorial portrait of Gov. Joe Manchin during a ceremony Tuesday morning in the governor’s reception room at the state capitol.

Manchin, West Virginia’s 34th governor, is standing outside in front of the state capitol in the portrait. The gold and blue dome, restored during Manchin’s time as governor, is prominent in the portrait.

It was a standing-room-only crowd as Manchin talked about his six years in the governor’s office and his two-plus years in Washington. Many members of the Manchin family were on hand for the ceremony.

Portrait artist Larry Bishop also gave some brief comments.

The portrait will now hang in the reception room along with the portrait of former Gov. Bob Wise. The portrait completed after former Gov. Cecil Underwood’s second term has been moved into the hallway of governor’s at the capitol.

what a waste of money shame on wv, the head isnt big enough he should be holding a FREE MASTER DEGREE

  • Jim

Heard these painting cost about $27,000. WTF?!!! A lot of WV people could use that money. What a damn waste!!!!!!!!

  • Wowbagger

I seem to recall that Joe's uncle A. James said that the Governor's portraits should be removed from the capital as they scare visiting school children?

Hey, cool! -- Click on Joe's portrait above and it turns to the left (counterclockwise) just like he did when he went to Washington!

  • Big John

The picture is very appropriate as Manchin has his hands out and open. He was disappointing as Governor and he has not shown me that he will be a good Senator.

  • JohnQ

... and usually, if you can click on an image on a webpage you get a bigger picture ... not the same size but sideways.

  • The truth

Head is not big enough and no frame is big enough for his ego.

  • Picklebee

Is he returning a router or a diploma?

  • Kate

    Eww. Brown suit.

  • MyView

And the rest of the world says WHO CARES

  • jethro

i thought they blocked out his deer rifle

  • JohnQ

Paint-by-numbers? Really? This is the best they could do?

  • thornton

Obviously, they reluctantly removed the Friends of Coal Bowl from Joe's hands.

  • Ryan

"I never know what to do with my hands."

  • C.Hoffman

His hands are like that as he was holding a network router when originally painted. The artist had to cover it up just like Tomblin has since the scandal broke never to be heard form again. He should be in handcuffs.

  • Hopship Isanut

Will the real Joe Manchin please stand up?? And not just for your portrait.
