U.S. Senator Joe Manchin and wife Gayle unveiled the official gubernatorial portrait of Gov. Joe Manchin during a ceremony Tuesday morning in the governor’s reception room at the state capitol.
Manchin, West Virginia’s 34th governor, is standing outside in front of the state capitol in the portrait. The gold and blue dome, restored during Manchin’s time as governor, is prominent in the portrait.
It was a standing-room-only crowd as Manchin talked about his six years in the governor’s office and his two-plus years in Washington. Many members of the Manchin family were on hand for the ceremony.
Portrait artist Larry Bishop also gave some brief comments.
The portrait will now hang in the reception room along with the portrait of former Gov. Bob Wise. The portrait completed after former Gov. Cecil Underwood’s second term has been moved into the hallway of governor’s at the capitol.
