West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Baylous said the man who allegedly shot and killed Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum is expected to survive his injuries.
Tennis Maynard, 37, of Ragland, is being treated at Cabell Huntington Hospital after being shot multiple times Wednesday by a Mingo County sheriff’s deputy moments after Maynard allegedly shot and killed Crum.
Maynard was charged with first-degree murder by Williamson police Thursday afternoon.
Baylous said troopers recovered “a Glock .40 caliber at the Delbarton scene which we believe was used in the shooting of Sheriff Crum.”
Williamson city police are leading the investigation and were the first to file charges in connection with the sheriff’s death. Baylous said state police have warrants in hand against Maynard for the attempted murder of a police officer.
