Coach: Devin Williams ‘built like Superman’

WVU basketball signee Devin Williams is coming off a high school national championship with his Montverde (Fla.) Academy team. His high school head coach, Kevin Boyle, was a guest on Thursday’s MetroNews Statewide Sportsline to break down the future Mountaineer.

“He’s built like Superman,” Boyle said. “I think he’s a Huggins guy. I pushed him hard to West Virginia because I have a lot of respect for Coach Huggins and the job he’s done. I just really like him as a person. To me he’s so genuine and a great coach – I think Devin will excel in that system.”

Williams, one of four early WVU signees last fall, saw his stock rise during his senior season with Montverde.

“He’s developed into an excellent 17-foot shooter,” Boyle said. “He’s a good rebounder, excellent at screening and he has a good toughness about him. But he’s also like a big teddy bear and the community will embrace him, and I think he’ll be a fan favorite.”

How much Boyle sees Williams being able to contribute during his freshman year at West Virginia?

“I think he’s a need for them,” Boyle said. “I know and trust Coach Huggins and I think he feels he will be a major contributor right away — whether, that’s starting or first guy off the bench, we support it. We’re happy he’s going to play for West Virginia and if we could send more to West Virginia we would be thrilled with that.”
