Musgrave, McBroom power 8-0 win over Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Harrison Musgrave threw seven shutout innings and Ryan McBroom belted his team-leading eighth home run as West Virginia crushed Liberty 8-0 in the opener of a three-game series Friday night.

WVU (19-16), behind three hits by Brady Wilson, outhit Liberty 11-4. Taylor Munden and Ryan Tuntland each had two hits for the Mountaineers.

Musgrave (5-1) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out two.

McBroom’s three-run homer in the first inning off Liberty’s Carson Herndon (3-4) was followed by Jacob Rice’s RBI single in the third. Herndon limited the damage after that, but reliever Kyke McKelvey surrendered four runs in the eighth — highlighted by Tuntland’s two-run single — as WVU sealed the win.

WVU and Liberty (18-17) continue the series Saturday at 4 p.m. with Corey Walter facing the Flames’ Brooks Roy. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
