CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Three University of Charleston basketball players charged with roles in a robbery and beating in downtown Charleston have been kicked off the team and evicted from residence halls.
Charleston police arrested Terrell Lipkins, 20, of Canton, Ohio, Tuesday night and charged him with the attack of two men early Sunday morning after they had left a Charleston bar.
Police said Lipkins and fellow players Robbie Dreher and Quincy Washington were all part of the attack. Investigators said Dreher and Washington turned themselves in on Wednesday morning.
All three were being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
Charleston police chief of detectives Lt. Steve Cooper said the three are also “persons of interest” in the separate beating of a Boone County man early Friday morning.
That man was still in the hospital Wednesday.
The geography, the time of day and, possibly, the MO are similar,” Cooper said. “So, certainly, we would not rule them out.”
University of Charleston president Ed Welch called what the players allegedly did “deplorable” and said it “violates university policies and expectations.”
Welch said all three men have been dismissed from the basketball team and evicted from the UC residence halls. The school president said additional campus disciplinary actions are in progress.
Investigators said Lipkins used one of the Sunday morning victim’s credit cards at a Kanawha City convenience store not long after the beating. A vehicle tied to the robbery was found on campus.
