Mercer Senator weighs Congressional run

A Mercer County Senator says he has not yet decided whether he’ll run for Congress in West Virginia’s Third District next year.

Senator Bill Cole, a Republican, says officials with the National Republican Congressional Committee have approached him about a possible run in the Third Congressional District for the seat Democratic Congressman Nick Rahall has held since 1977.

“I think it’s fair to say that I’m strongly considering it,” Sen. Cole said on Thursday’s MetroNews Talkline.  “But, honestly, I have a few more questions I have to sift through in my own mind as to what’s right.”

He says there is a lot to consider.

“On the personal side, I still have two teenaged daughters at home and I have to do what’s right for my family,” Cole said.  “On the political side, I want to serve where I think I can have the most impact for West Virginia.”

Cole, an auto dealer from Bluefield, is a newcomer to state politics.  He was appointed to the state House of Delegates in 2010 and elected to the state Senate 2012.

Congressman Rahall is currently serving his 19th term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
