Three injured in Tucker County plane crash

Three people were being treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown after a plane crash Friday afternoon in Tucker County.

The single-engine Cessna crashed at around 12:40 p.m. about a half-mile short of the Windwood Fly-In Resort in Canaan Valley.

A 911 spokesman said the crash was north of the runway in a small wooded area just off Buckhorn Ridge Road, near Cortland Road. It appears the plane was on approach to Windwood when the crash occurred. It was originally reported four people were injured but later confirmed there were three people on board.

One of the injured had to be cut out of the wreckage by first responders.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified.

Fire crews from Canaan Valley, Davis and Thomas responded to the scene along with Tucker County EMS.

The runway at Windwood is 3,000 feet long and 40 feet wide. It serves as a popular landing spot for those flying in for a weekend getaway or vacation.
