Big 12 honors Musgrave for third time

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  — West Virginia’s Harrison Musgrave earned Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors Monday for his complete-game shutout of Kansas.

Harrison Musgrave is 7-1 with a 2.36 earned-run average overall, but has gone 4-0 with a 0.97 ERA in league play.

Musgrave became the 13th pitcher in conference history to collect three or more of the weekly honors in one season — the last being Taylor Jungmann of Texas and Ross Stripling of Texas A&M in 2011.

Musgrave (7-1) led the Mountaineers to a 1-0 win in Friday’s series opener against Kansas, tossing a four-hitter that included three infield singles. The sophomore left-hander struck out five and walked one in throwing 111 pitches. Musgrave retired the Jayhawks in order in the first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth innings.

It was the second-consecutive shutout for Musgrave, following his 1-0 win over Texas on April 19. Musgrave extended his scoreless streak to 25 innings. During that stretch he has more strikeouts (16) than hits allowed (13).

For the season, Musgrave owns a 2.36 ERA in 11 starts. Currently he is riding a six-game winning streak overall and stands 4-0 in Big 12 play with a 0.97 ERA.
