Thursday is National Day of Prayer. Here in West Virginia, hundreds of groups have services planned including one at the state Capitol.
The 2013 Gubernatorial Prayer Breakfast takes place Thursday morning from 7-9 on the House of Delegates side of the rotunda.
Jeremy Dys, President of the Family Policy Council of West Virginia, explains what the event is all about.
“We’re just going to be good citizens on Thursday and pray for our state, our nation and the leaders who are elected to govern us,” according to Dys.
Among the guests at the breakfast will be Governor Earl Ray Tomblin who will present a proclamation declaring it National Day of Prayer in West Virginia.
The guest speaker is former West Virginia University head football coach Don Nehlen.
Dys says the coach is the perfect person to speak about faith and prayer considering the impact he’s had on countless young lives during his time on the football field.
“He knows success in life is something more than X’s and O’s. It’s more than even just hard work,” stresses Dys. “It starts at the beginning with prayer.”
More than 200 tickets have already been sold for the event. Dys says there will be a few tickets available the morning of the breakfast.
