National Day of Prayer recognized in West Virginia

Former Mountaineer football coach Don Nehlen shared several personal stories as the keynote speaker in Thursday’s 2013 Gubernatorial Prayer Breakfast at the state capitol on the National Day of Prayer.

The annual breakfast, hosted by The Family Policy Council of West Virginia, drew a crowd of more than 200 people to the upper rotunda.

Nehlen emphasized how important faith and prayer were to his family growing up in Ohio and how he personally witnessed changed lives on some of his Mountaineer teams when players committed their lives to Jesus Christ.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey delivered a few remarks emphasizing prayer.

Family Policy Council President Jeremy Dys said good citizens pray for their state, nation and elected leaders. He shared with the large crowd how key prayer has been in the formation and direction of the organization.

Horizon Financial Solutions President John Young welcomed those in attendance and District Superintendent for West Virginia’s Northern District of the West Virginia Church of the Nazarene Kevin Dennis led the official prayer.

There were a number of other events across the state recognizing the National Day of Prayer.
