A northbound section of the West Virginia Turnpike near Beckley that was closed most of Thursday has been re-opened.
The West Virginia Department of Transportation re-opened the section of Interstate 77 near mile marker 43 late Thursday night around 11:30 p.m. after a crash shut down the road for several hours earlier in the day.
The crash happened Thursday afternoon when the driver lost control of the car in the southbound lanes between Harper Road and Mabscott. The car crossed the median and into the northbound path of a FedEx tractor-trailer. The truck burst into flames.
During the closure, traffic was rerouted onto I-64 East to Eisenhower Drive onto Route 19 north through downtown Beckley and then back on I-77 at North Beckley.
Police said three people were injured in the crash. One of them was taken by helicopter to Charleston Area Medical Center and the other two to Beckley area hospitals.
