Nick Casey’s announcement no big deal to Republican Party

The West Virginia Republican Party Chairman sees Nick Casey’s announcement last week as a non-event.

“I’m perfectly happy to allow Nick Casey to run around West Virginia to campaign, he can even bring the letter from Joe Manchin that he had that endorsed him,” said Republican Party Chairman Conrad Lucas.

Casey, the former West Virginia Democratic Party Chairman, announced his plans of running for 2nd District Congress in 2014.

Lucas said Democrats are bringing out a liberal former party chair whose going to have to face a very conservative electorate.

“What we have is a district here that Mitt Romney won by 30 points and a state where Mitt Romney won by 27. We had Congresswoman Capitol in this district win by 40 points this time,” said Lucas. “This has become great territory for us.”

In addition to the area being very conservative, Lucas said they have many strong candidates to choose from to run in the Second District Race next year.

“There are several running around making the Lincoln Day Dinner rounds and I believe the field will begin to narrow as filing deadline comes closer, but we have an incredibly strong bench now,” said Lucas.

Lucas said he is not worried about Casey running. He instead is just excited to see how everything plays out and which republican candidate comes out the victor.
