Kanawha County road closed most of Monday reopened

A section of Goff Mountain Road in Cross Lanes that was closed for most of Monday has been reopened

Crews completed making repairs to utility lines around 10 p.m. Monday and the road was reopened.

The very busy road was closed around 9:30 Monday morning after a truck hauling an excavator clipped several utility lines, bringing them to the ground.

The road was closed near the GoMart, which is just off the Interstate 64 exit, to the West Washington Street intersection. Crews spent most of the day repairing the downed lines.

The road closure created traffic congestion on all other roads leading into Cross Lanes as residents and visitors tried to get around. Interstate 64 westbound was backed up most of the day as a result of the closure as well.

Several accidents on West Washington Street and 40th Street in Nitro added to the traffic problems.

In total, the road was closed for around 12 hours Monday.
