MAXWELTON W.Va. —Greenbrier County Office of Emergency Services Director Al Whittaker says he’s keeping a close eye on high water in parts of the county after heavy rain Monday and Tuesday.
“We’ve had 2.6 inches since Monday morning at our office in Maxwelton,” Whittaker told MetroNews late Tuesday afternoon. “That’s 1.33 (inches) today.”
Most of the high water has been reported on tributaries of the Greenbrier River in Caldwell and White Sulphur Springs.
Whittaker said some on and off ramps were shut down near Lewisburg for several hours as well due to flooding problems.
As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, Whittaker reported the rain had stopped, most streams were still within their banks and the flood waters were beginning to recede. However more rain was in the forecast for Tuesday night and Wednesday.
