Kane plans to transfer to Pitt

Former Marshall guard DeAndre Kane, who averaged 15.1 points last season for The Herd, announced he’ll spend his senior season at Pitt.

PITTSBURGH — Former Marshall guard DeAndre Kane will transfer to Pitt, according to a report from CBSSports.com.

Kane was a 15.1 points-per-game scorer last season for Marshall, where he also averaged seven assists. He earned second-team All-Conference USA honors.

After The Herd finished a 13-19 season, Kane announced in April he would take advantage of the NCAA’s senior transfer rule in order to play his final year at another Division I program.

He reportedly must complete two more classes in order to graduate from Marshall and be eligible at Pitt next fall when the Panthers move in to the ACC.

The 6-foot-4 Kane, a Pittsburgh native, said he plans to commit to Panthers coach Jamie Dixon during this weekend’s visit. Kane reportedly considered USC and Saint Mary’s.

During his three seasons at Marshall, Kane was a reliable scorer, averaging 15.1 points in 96 games. More natural as a shooting guard, he shifted to point guard as a junior when Marshall’s Kareem Canty was ruled ineligible.

Coming out of high school, Kane was a three-star prospect who had scholarship offers from Pitt, Marquette and Seton Hall.

Kane was among three Herd players to transfer this offseason, joining D.D. Scarver and Chris Martin.
