Logan County man convicted in arson scheme

A Logan County man faces more than 20 years in prison after his conviction Friday on charges that he planned an arson fire to collect insurance money.

A federal jury in Charleston convicted Michael White, 58, of Chapmanville, on all three counts against him.

White hired Kimberly Dawn Kinder and her husband, of Chapmanville, to set fire to a duplex he owned in the Boone County community of Van.

The couple set the blaze on Oct. 15, 2009 and White collected more than $80,000 in an insurance claim from Nationwide Insurance Company. He paid the Kinders in small amounts over period of time that totaled about $2,000.

Kiimberly Dawn Kinder pleaded guilty to conspiracy last year. Her husband is deceased.

White now faces up to five years in federal prison on the conspiracy conviction, up to 20 years for arson and an additional two and a half years for being an accessory after the fact.

The federal jury that heard his trial found him guilty of all three counts Friday.
