Watch: Mazey watches WVU eek out a win

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — From Harrison Musgrave’s pitching to WVU’s baserunning hustle on a key seventh-inning play, coach Randy Mazey found a lot to like during Saturday’s 2-0 win over TCU.

While Musgrave looked spectacular in a hurling 14-strikeout complete game, the difference was an innocent-looking two-out dribbler that netted two runs for the Mountaineers.

Taylor Munden’s cue-ball grounder off the end of the bat looked like it would end the seventh. But as Munden hustled down the line, TCU first baseman Derek Odell bobbled it and then overthrew the pitcher covering first. The errors allowed not only Billy Fleming to score from third base, but also Bobby Boyd, who was running with the pitch from first.

“That’s the character of our team,” Mazey said. “We’ve got guys who can run and put pressure on the defense. That’s why they do it, because of plays like that.”
