Governor appointes new Acting State Tax Commissioner

Hurricane resident Mark Matkovich will be the next Acting State Tax Commissioner.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin Tuesday announced the appointment.

Matkovich began his career in government in 1996 and since that time has served as the City Attorney
for Beckley, staff attorney for the West Virginia Senate, and General Counsel to the Senate Majority Leader.

In his most recent position, Matkovich served as General
Counsel to the Cabinet Secretary for the Department of Revenue.

Matkovich earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Albright College and his law degree from the University of New Hampshire.

His appointment is effective May 15.
