Powerball jackpot climbing

The Powerball jackpot continues to climb higher with the next drawing right around the corner.

Due to strong sales across the country, Powerball’s jackpot is being raised to an estimated $360 million.

For West Virginian’s, this is good news as more and more residents are becoming millionaires thanks to both the Powerball and Mega Millions games.

The two games have produced eight West Virginia winning tickets of $1 million or more since January 2012,” said West Virginia Lottery Director John C. Musgrave Tuesday in a lottery release. “Both games have also reached recent record jackpots that have driven player interest and we could not be more excited.”

The Mega Millions jackpot for Tuesday night’s drawing was at an estimated $170 million.

Ever since the new Powerball game went on sale back in January, players responded to bigger jackpots, more $1 million and $2 million prizes, and better chances to win any prize.

Powerball jackpots start at $40 million and roll until the jackpot is won while Mega Millions jackpots start at $12 million and roll until the jackpot is won. Both games have jackpot odds of 1 in 175 million.

Powerball and Mega Millions reached their highest jackpots ever last year when Powerball reached $587.5 million and Mega Millions hit $656 million.

The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday night.
