Celebrating state’s 150th on the bumper

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles is offering motorists the chance to show a little Mountain State pride in the state’s 150th year.

The commemorative sesquicentennial license plate is now available at the DMV. The plate can be picked up at the time of license renewals for no additional cost, and for motorists picking it up before their renewal date, the rate will be pro-rated.

“What better way to celebrate 150-years than to put out a license plate that our customers can purchase and put on their vehicle to show their support for the state,” said DMV spokesperson Natalie Harvey.

The plate was designed by the Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s staff. It’s a gold-colored plate with the outline of the state and the state seal as the back drop. The numbers are preceded by “SQ” to signify the plate’s identity and the bottom of the plate reads “Wild and Wonderful for 150 Years.”

The DMV rolled out the plate with the recent re-opening of the renovated Parkersburg field office.

“It’s been very well received,” Harvey said. “I think as folks have seen them more and more on vehicles, we’re getting more calls for them.”

The plates are available at any DMV regional office across the state.
