Deadly shooting in McDowell County

A McDowell County man was in jail after allegedly shooting and killing another man Sunday night.

McDowell County sheriff’s deputies said Wesley Payne, 54, of War, was in an argument with Donald Baker 52, of Avondale, when the shooting occurred.

Deputies said Baker was shot once. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting took place at Baker’s house. Police are continuing their investigation.
