Twisters putting Mountaineers on alert

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The West Virginia baseball team was returning to its hotel after Monday’s practice as tornado sirens wailed throughout the city.

An F4-level tornado reportedly spun through the town of Moore, about 11 miles to the south of the Bricktown district where the Mountaineers are staying as they prepare for the Big 12 tournament hat opens Wednesday. An image of the tornado’s aftermath revealed widespread destruction, and news video captured the twister roping out.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado emergency for the Oklahoma City area Monday around the time the powerful twister touched down in Moore. Much of the state remains under a tornado watch until 10 p.m.

The Mountaineers had been scheduled for a 2 p.m. Central practice, but the workout was moved up to 11 a.m. with inclement weather bearing down.
