Park Service believe train victim was homeless

Investigators said the woman struck and killed by a CSX train Monday in the New River Gorge National River in Fayette County was apparently homeless.

The National Park Service is trying to find out the victim’s name. She’s believed to be about 50 years old.

Investigators said she was walking along the tracks in the Meadow Creek area during a heavy rainstorm Monday afternoon. She had her head covered with a blanket.

Train engineers saw the woman, sounded the horn, and tried to stop but could not avoid contact.
